Purposes of PTSA
 
  • To promote the welfare of children and youth in the home, school, community and places of worship.
  • To raise the standards of home life.
  • To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
  • To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth.
  • To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

PTSA Sponsored Activities

Art Program: Parent volunteer docents bring art to the classrooms.

Association Meetings: You are cordially invited to attend all PTSA Association and Board Meetings listed in the calendar section.

Bike Rodeo: Co-sponsored by the PTSA and the Torrance Fire Department. Students from the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will compete with their own grade level on an obstacle course designed to test their skills In handling bicycles. The winner at each grade level continues on to the city-wide competition.

Blue Ribbon Week: This week is set aside to honor the men and women of law enforcement. We thank our Torrance Police Department for their hard work and dedication with providing our families a safer community.

Red Ribbon Week: This week is set aside to encourage our children to remain drug free and proud. We feel that if they are aware they will care to be drug free. DARE to keep kids off drugs. We continue to display our commitment in keeping our school and community a drug-free environment.

Board Meetings: Board meetings are held in the Staff Lounge at 6:30pm or, the dates listed in the calendar section of this handbook.

Principals List: All students who earn an “E” in Citizenship on their report cards become members of the Can- E-Club. These students are honored each trimester with special recognition and treats, along with an official E-Club card.

Fifth Grade Field Day: Carr’s 5th Graders get a special day of fun and games before they move on to Middle School.

Treats: Treats brought to the classroom must meet the Healthy Snacks Menu.

Carr-nival: Fun end of the year activities, games, and food (free to students).

Fund-Raising Activities: Monies from our one and only fund-raiser Jog-A-Thon are used for PTA expenses, field trips, educational programs, and fun activities for the students. Our goal is to raise $15,000.00. This can be accomplished if each student will raise $30.00 in pledges.

Multicultural Potluck: This program celebrates Carr’s diverse population with a pot-luck dinner and program. This multicultural event alternates each year with Friendship Day when Grandparents or other special people in the students’ lives are invited to spend the morning and have lunch with the children.

Honorary Service Awards: This is the event and award where we honor those who have really made a difference in our childrens’ education and school experience. They can be staff, parents or anyone who has really made a difference.

I.D. Tags: This is a public service which provides identification for you and your children. This is not a fund raiser.

Library: The library is maintained and staffed by Carr staff and assisted by the PTA for the enjoyment of all students.

Read Across America Day : This day is dedicated to reading aloud. Guest readers come to school and read to the children. Parents and community members are invited to be guest readers.

Reflections: A program which encourages students to explore their creativity in the arts; photography, writing, music, and visual arts.

Spirit Day: Students are encouraged to show their school spirit every Friday by wearing red. Randomly picked winners will be announced each Friday during as sembly and receive a treat if wearing.red. Assembly starts at 8:40 AM.

Talent Show: This is our annual opportunity for our children to share their special talents with the entire Carr community. Past talents in the show have included singing, dancing, musical instruments, poetry, and gymnastics.
