Skecher's Friendship Walk

Join us for a great event on Sunday, October 29th at 9:00 am.  This annual Pier-to-Pier walk is a fun way to raise money for our school and you can sign up to be a real or virtual walker!  Please register by going to http://www.skechersfriendshipwalk.com , the cost is $30, and our team name is Carr Elementary School.  Thanks to Ms. Inouye for organizing our group!  


Parent information night - College for Cubs

Please join us on Thursday, October 26th from 6:00 - 7:30 pm in the Cafeteria for a parent information night about financial information.  Click here for the flyer.  Light refreshments will be served.  PLEASE RSVP (310) 918 - 4812.  Otto Nguyen, a local community member and former Carr Cub, will be presenting the information.  Mr. Nguyen is a Marketing Director and Licensed Financial Consultant.  Translators are available, please contact the school office.

Unity Day - Wear Orange

On Friday, October 27th - Wear ORANGE to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.  This nationwide event helps to prevent bullying.  When you wear orange, you are pledging to be against bullying and pledging to be kind to your peers.

Join us in the Cafeteria after the Halloween Parade on October 31st for important information.  Coffee and light refreshments will be served.


GATE Testing for 3rd Grade

GATE Testing for 3rd Grade 

Universal  3rd grade GATE testing will take place at each elementary school site in October. The parent notification with testing details and schedule was sent home with 3rd-grade students last week. Please check the testing schedule for your school's specified test date, which was included on the back side of the parent notification letter.

No form or application for participation in third-grade GATE testing is necessary.  

Parent notification letter (in English, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish) are attached to this message. 

If you choose to withdraw your student from GATE testing, you will need to complete and sign a Withdraw from GATE Testing Form (on the reverse side of the parent notification) and return it to your student's teacher by Monday, October 2, 2017.     


More information regarding GATE testing for grades 4 and 5 will be coming at a later date.

Here are a few reminders:

  • Breakfast is served starting at 8:20 am and the office opens at 8:20 am
  • The playgrounds open at 8:35 am, there is no supervision until then.
  • TK, K, 4th, 5th grade bell rings at 8:50 am
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade bell rings at 8:59 am
  • TK/K dismissal at 1:50 pm will begin on Monday, September 11th.
  • Every Wednesday, grades 1-5 are dismissed at 2:27 pm

Did you know that every Carr "Cub of the Month" gets a family four-pack to Mulligan? Mulligan also hosts an annual fundraiser night in the Spring and supports several of our other school events including Bike Rodeo, special Assemblies, and Jog-A-Thon. When visiting Mulligan in Torrance, you will see a few picture collages of our amazing students hung up on the walls and we are so happy to have them as our partner!  Show Mulligan your support on Facebook and tell everyone how much they mean to our school!

Powerschool for Families

We are happy to announce the launch of our new student information system, PowerSchool.


PowerSchool will be replacing Parent Connect this fall of 2017. In order to access the new portal you will need to create a new account. This can be done by visiting 


and selecting the Create Account tab. It is very important that you submit an accurate email address. We recommend the Google Chrome or Firefox browser to access the portal.


You will need your student's Access ID and Password to link your child to your account. If you have multiple children in the district, you will receive a separate letter for each child, which you can link to your newly created account.

Please keep your passwords confidential so that only you can access the information.


Once you have your account created and child(ren) linked, we ask that you click on the Registration link to update your information and review district agreements.

After School Pick Up

Please make sure to communicate the pick up plan after school each day!  For safety, we are asking that all 1st and 2nd grade students be picked up at the front gate unless you've already made arrangements with your child's teacher.  3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will be dismissed from their classroom and can go to the front or back gate.  In order to help alleviate congestion at the front gate, we are releasing 1st grade students at the front gate and 2nd grade students near the east cafeteria gate.

If you are interested in after school care for your TK/Kindergarten student, please contact the YMCA.  If there is enough interest, the YMCA will transport students to Lincoln elementary.  Financial Aid is available for those who qualify. Hey Carr Cubs! We are kicking off our school-wide PBIS program this month!


For an entire month, we will help students learn about what it means to:

Our staff will be giving students RRAH-wards where they can earn fun prizes or put their name in a monthly raffle to have snack with the principal!
